Choral Classics in the Yorkshire Dales
Our Musical Director, Nigel Waugh, is a popular and respected musician, based in Settle. He took over in September 2009.
In an extensive musical career, Nigel sang as a chorister in the choir of King’s College Chapel, Cambridge (conductor: David Willcocks). He gained the degree of Bachelor of Music at Edinburgh University and sang as a lay clerk at St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral. Whilst he worked in London, he sang in the choir of All Saints, Margaret Street and took singing lessons with Professor Roy Henderson.
Coming to the North, Nigel obtained his teaching qualifications at Liverpool University. He sang for five years with BBC Northern Singers, and has also sung with the William Byrd Choir, the Louis Halsey Singers, the Gabrieli Consort and many other groups.
Nigel has sung for most of his life in choirs and as a soloist. He has conducted several choirs in Cumbria and Yorkshire and has been conductor of Skipton Music Centre Choir and Orchestra for eight years. He works as a singing teacher for North Yorkshire County Council, has recently completed a book on the subject of Sight Singing and has composed a number of choral works including song cycles, pop cantatas and carols.
